I'll start with the depressingly bad news: These days Apple's interest in anything that doesn't support AirPrint is pretty thin. That's not an AirPrint printer, and it's a bit dated. It's not even a network printer. If it were one, that would convey easy access to it from any device on your network.

As old as it is you ought to be able to make it work though. As I understand it, that printer is connected via USB to your wife's Mac. If that's the case, she needs to share it according to Share your printer on Mac - Apple Support. I understand you removed the printer and re-added it which was a reasonable step to follow. Try 'resetting the printing system' according to the instructions in the second document.
