For what it is worth, I have this problem as well. The drive tray wouldn't even eject with one cable, so I flipped to another. I could then open the tray (seems odd to me) but the disc would not mount. Here is the console log info that indicates that the OS is getting incorrect feedback from the driver saying the disc is faulty. This same reader/cable/disc work fine on my 10.10.5 MacBook Air and had worked perfectly fine with this same MBP prior to service (and 'complimentary' upgrade to EC by Apple).

I can login fine, but I get the following message when I open a book:I installed the latest version of Silverlight (5.1.20913.0) and cleared all Firefox history (including cookies, cache, etc.).I just upgraded to OS 10.9.2 and Firefox has been updated to the latest version 27.0.1.There aren't many privacy/security settings to change, it looks pretty basic in this version of Firefox.Any other ideas?
